National Data Centre Day
Powering Progress in the UK’s Digital Future
On 12th September 2025, the UK marks the very first National Data Centre Day (NDCD) – a dedicated awareness day recognising the essential role data centres play in powering the digital economy, enabling Artificial Intelligence (AI), and keeping society connected.
At Global Commissioning, we know that data centres are more than just buildings full of equipment; they are the critical heartbeat of the digital age. Our role is to ensure they are tested, proven, and ready to perform. But beyond commissioning, we are part of an industry that is shaping the future of society as we know it.
Why the 12th of September?
This date is significant: it marks one year since the UK Government officially recognised data centres as Critical National Infrastructure (CNI). Alongside energy, water, and transport, data centres are now formally acknowledged as services the country simply cannot function without.
For us, this recognition underscores why commissioning matters. Every time we deliver a project, we are not just testing systems, we are safeguarding resilience, security, and reliability for industries, communities, and people everywhere.
Why Data Centres Matter:
Every message sent, film streamed, payment processed, or AI query answered is powered by a data centre. These facilities form the invisible backbone of our daily lives, driving progress across:
AI & Cloud Computing: powering everything from smart assistants to advanced machine learning.
Essential Services: supporting healthcare, finance, education, and communications.
Innovation & Growth: accelerating digital transformation and the UK’s technology ambitions.
Despite their importance, data centres remain largely unseen. That’s why NDCD exists - to shine a spotlight on the industry, the people behind it, and the innovation shaping a more connected, sustainable future.
Why Global is Supporting National Data Centre Day:
At Global Commissioning, we believe in education, collaboration, and visibility. Supporting NDCD aligns with our mission to build awareness of the sector, attract future talent, and champion innovation.
By recognising this day, together we can:
Improve public understanding of the role data centres play in modern society.
Inspire the next generation into STEM and data centre careers.
Showcase sustainability progress, from efficiency to renewable energy use.
For us, NDCD is not just a day, it’s a chance to change perceptions of our industry and highlight the essential people and processes behind digital progress.
What’s Next?
Throughout September, Global Commissioning will be celebrating National Data Centre Day 2025 - spotlighting our team, projects, and partners who bring resilience and reliability to the world’s digital infrastructure.
Stay tuned to see how we’re recognising the industry, and how we’re continuing to lead the way in commissioning excellence.
