Pan South Africa

Global Commissioning at the Pan Africa Data Centre Convention

This June Global Commissioning debuted at our first event in South Africa. After opening a new project in the region earlier this year a small but mighty team headed to Johannesburg armed with a presentation and ready-built stand, ready to meet potential clients in the region and promote our custom-built permit-to-work systems.

Operations Director Phil Heydon, who has overseen our expansion into the region, supported by Associate Director Mike Jaanus and Project Support & Software Director Emily Fox, flew to Johannesburg for the event. The Pan African Data Centre Convention in Johannesburg is an event designed to bring together the key players in the continent’s rapidly growing digital infrastructure space. Supported by the The African Data Centres Association (ADCA), it was the first event Global have attended in the region.

Our arrival confirmed what we have already learnt, it is clear that Africa’s data centre landscape is bursting with opportunities. The team met with a range of potential new clients, each one aligned to our mission of delivering high performing, safe and efficient commissioning services.

There’s real energy in the African market, and a hunger for partnership. People are looking for trustworthy commissioning providers who understand the pressures and priorities unique to the region, and they’re looking at us to deliver it.
— Phil Heydon

Throughout the convention, the team showcased Global’s technical platforms and commissioning capabilities, generating conversations around how our work can support Africa’s infrastructure evolution. Our values shone through, and each conversation had was valuable.

The team were joined by on-site team members in Johannesburg.

Global Commissioning were Gold Sponsors of the event, meaning not only did we exhibit, our branding was over all marketing materials and the lanyards for the event were covered in the Global logo. Solidifying us as a leader and partner at the event.

Our team were asked to use our knowledge and experience to deliver a presentation on a topic close to our hearts, Electrical Safety. The title? Exploring Best Practices in Data Centre Construction, Electrical Safety and Mitigating Risk, and the live presentation, though it had a few technical hurdles at the start, truly embodied Global’s values. The presentation was extremely well received and resonated with the audience, with many giving us positive feedback since.

We believe safety and performance go hand-in-hand - one doesn’t work without the other. Our talk sparked great conversations with attendees who shared that view, and we’ve already had follow-ups since the event.
— Mike Jaanus

The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees praising our practical, real-world approach to commissioning and safety in complex environments.

It was a great reminder that resilience isn’t just a technical spec - it’s a mindset. Our team remained composed, adapted in the moment, and showed what Global is all about.
— Phil Heydon

At the event, our cloud-based permit-to-work system was also extremely well received. Many attendees were fascinated by the Gecko and Cobia platforms that we use everyday, and plenty of leads were generated.

This event marks more than just another conference. It’s a step forward in building lasting partnerships across Africa and reaffirming our commitment to raising standards wherever we operate

Africa is full of potential, and so are we. This was only the beginning.
— Emily Fox
